What is “A Hidden Variable”?
“A Hidden Variable” is a Berlin-based initiative dedicated to showcasing art inspired by science and created by scientifically curious minds. Through exhibitions and interdisciplinary collaborations, the project reveals the unseen forces—both scientific and psychological—that shape our understanding of the world, inviting audiences to explore the hidden connections between art, science, and perception. We unite artists inspired by science and scientists making art!
Why “A Hidden Variable”?
In physics, hidden variable theories suggest that unseen forces shape reality beyond apparent randomness. In psychology, hidden variables influence perception, creativity, and thought, shaping how we understand the world. We invite like-minded creators to join our exploration mission of uncovering and understanding hidden variables!

Ala Leresteux - https://alaleresteux.com
Visual artist, M.A. in Philosophy, curator, co-founderAla Leresteux is a visual artist and curator with a Master’s degree in Philosophy. Her practice draws from scientific and theoretical fields such as physics, linguistics, psychology, and biology. Working primarily with ink pointillism, drawing, and mixed media, she explores themes of perception, language, and cognition. Her philosophical background informs a deep interest in the relationship between conceptual thought and sensory experience, a connection she brings into both her artistic work and the exhibitions she curates
Masha Msky - https://tootooweird.art
Visual artist, B.A. in Linguistics, curator, co-founderMasha Msky is a visual artist and curator with a B.A. in Linguistics. Her academic background in language shapes her sensitivity to symbolism, ambiguity, and the unstable boundaries of meaning. Psychology, psychoanalysis, and the mystery of the subconscious are central to her practice. Using visual strategies inspired by psychological tools like Rorschach and Lüscher tests, Msky creates ambiguous, interpretative forms that invite introspection and personal projection. Viewer perception becomes a co-creative act — a dialogue with the unknown. For Masha, the intersection of art and science is a fertile ground for exploration and collaboration — a synergy that continues to fuel her imagination.
